Accessibility is a big issue when it comes to camping as not everyone has a 4x4 - but thanks to the government, Al Qudra Desert along with many other desert areas have local access tracks that make it accessible with any type of car (yes, even a Kia Picanto can get into the desert now). 

Why it’s one of the best camping spots in the UAE:

Al Qudra strikes a perfect balance between feeling remote while remaining logistically simple - making it ideal for private desert camping experiences.

Al Qua’a Milky Way Spot is one of the UAE’s most iconic desert camping locations, widely known for having some of the darkest night skies in the country. Located deep in the Abu Dhabi desert, far from city lights and traffic, Al Qua’a offers a stargazing experience that feels almost otherworldly - especially on clear nights when the Milky Way stretches visibly across the sky.

Wadi camping requires careful planning, especially in winter. Rainfall upstream can cause flash flooding, so weather forecasts and local knowledge are essential. It is illegal to camp in low-lying Wadi areas during rain and floods with heavy fines so be sure to take extra care. 

Wadi Sana

Wadi Sana is a quieter and more secluded alternative for wadi camping in the UAE, making it a great choice for those who want the beauty of the mountains without the crowds. Compared to more well-known wadis, Wadi Sana feels calmer and less frequented, allowing campers to enjoy the landscape at a slower pace.

Ras Al Khaimah Wadi Areas

Mountain camping in the UAE once felt truly adventurous and remote, offering a sense of isolation that’s now increasingly hard to find. As outdoor tourism has grown, many mountain areas - particularly during peak season - have become heavily trafficked, with increased footfall, vehicles, and activity impacting the overall experience.

Well-known locations such as Jebel Jais, while still visually impressive, no longer offer the same level of quiet or seclusion they once did. Crowds, restrictions, and limited suitable camping space make it more difficult to recommend mountain camping for those seeking a peaceful, immersive stay. For this reason, mountain environments now tend to work better for organised events or structured experiences rather than private, low-impact camping trips.

Common challenges include:

• Crowded campsites and mountain areas

• Noise from nearby groups

• Limited privacy

• Overdevelopment in popular areas

For this reason, Nomadic no longer offers standard private mountain setups. While there are private campsites available for events or large bookings, mountains no longer align with our core focus on quiet, immersive experiences. 

Our Recommendation 

When it comes to mountain-style camping environments, Jebel Yanas and lower-lying wadi areas such as Wadi Ejili are far more in line with the kind of experience we value. These areas retain the drama and scale of the mountains - rugged terrain, rocky backdrops, and cooler evenings - without many of the challenges that come with higher, heavily trafficked peaks.

What makes locations like these stand out is their balance. They feel remote and immersive, yet are generally more accessible and manageable from a safety and logistics perspective. The terrain allows for quieter setups, better spacing, and a stronger sense of being surrounded by nature rather than crowds. For those drawn to mountain landscapes but seeking a calmer, more grounded camping experience, these environments offer a far more rewarding alternative when conditions allow.
